Department of Mathematics, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU) Bathinda has celebrated National Mathematics Day, remembering the great mathematician Srinivasan Ramanujan, on 2nd March 2023. To mark the day an expert talk, declamation and poster-making competitions were organized.

Speaking on the occasion, Senior faculty of the department, Prof. (Dr.) Karanvir Singh highlighted that various Indian mathematicians had made significant contributions to the field of mathematics including Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, Bhaskara II, Srinivasa Ramanujan, etc. He motivated the students by referring that at a very young age, Srinivasa Ramanujan made remarkable contributions regarding fractions, infinite series, number theory, mathematical analysis etc.

In his expert talk, Dr. Ashish Arora, Professor, department of mathematical sciences, IKGPTU Jalandhar, enumerated the importance of vedic mathematics as the skillset that shall help to solve mathematical problems faster and with greater accuracy and hence provides an edge in regular curriculum and competitive examinations. He further explains that how vedic math cultivates an interest for numbers and eliminates the phobia of math present in most of the students. The participants were overwhelmed with the magic of sutras and their easy implementation to achieve accurate results in the calculations.

         The students Anshika secured first, Mehak secured second and Sandeep Singh secured third position in poster making competition and Jaspreet Singh secured first, Riddhim secured second and Garvita secured third position in declamation competition. The faculty of the department gave away the prizes to the winners of the competitions.

           Program ended with the vote of thanks by Head of the department, Prof. Mamta Kansal. She congratulated the participants and winners who got positions in various events.

           Hon’ble vice chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Buta Singh Sidhu and Registrar Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar congratulated the department for celebrating this day.

Department of Mathematics being part of it shows some models related to trigonometry, geometry and mathematical identities, which shows the importance of mathematics in the field of science and technology.

Department of Mathematics, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU) Bathinda has celebrated World Science day for Peace and Development on the theme “Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development”, on 10 November 2022. This day is observed to ensure that the public is informed of scientific advancements. It also aims for sustaining growth and advancing world peace. It is a day when people from all walks of life come together to learn about the most recent scientific advancements and show their appreciation for our scientists' work for deepening our understanding about science. To mark the day a Declamation, Model display, Rangoli and poster-making competitions on the theme were organized. 

The students Jimmy Singla and Seema Singla secured first position and Sandeep Singh and Jatin secured second position in rangoli competition, Students Anshu secured first and Mehak secured second position in poster making competition, Tarunpreet Singh secured first and Yadwinder Singh, Saleem Khan secured second position in model making and Tarunpreet Singh secured first and Riya Singh secured second position in declamation competition. The faculty of the department gave away the prizes to the winners of the various competitions.

Mathematics to portray the growth of science and technology and their application in industry, human welfare and environment, with a view to develop scientific attitude and temper and to create a general awareness among the students.

Department of Mathematics being part of it shows some charts representing the importance of mathematics in the field of science and technology. The students were also provided with the opportunity to understand logical parts of mathematics via offering some games to play.

Department of Mathematics, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU) Bathinda has celebrated National Mathematics Day 2021, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Srinivasan Ramanujan. To mark the day an expert talk, quiz and poster-making competitions were organized.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu highlighted the contribution of great Indian Mathematicians in the field of Mathematics. He motivated the students to explore practical approach for solving Mathematical problems. In his expert talk, Prof. (Dr.) Gauree Shankar, Head department of Mathematics and Statistics, Central University of Punjab enlightened the audience with an overview of the history of Indian Mathematicians and their contribution over the years. In his talk, He detailed about some surprising contributions of Srinivasan Ramanujan in the field of Mathematics and discussed the history of some of the contributions of Indian Mathematicians over the years.

The students Harshit Saini (M.Sc Mathematics) and Yogesh (B.Sc (Hons.) Mathematics) secured first position in the quiz competition, while Neelam Kaur and Neelam Garg (B.Sc (Hons.) Mathematics) secured first position in poster-making competition. The Vice-chancellor gave away the trophies to the winners of the quiz and poster-making competition. Prof. (Dr.) Karanvir Singh welcomed the Vice-Chancellor, Guests, and faculty.

It also underscores the role scientists play in broadening our understanding of the remarkable, fragile planet we call home and in making our societies more sustainable. To mark the day a speech and poster-making competitions were organized.

Speaking on the occasion, Head of the department, Prof. (Dr.) Karanvir Singh highlighted the significant role of science in society and the need to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues. He underlines the importance and relevance of science in our daily lives.. He motivated the students to explore practical approach to understand and apply their Mathematical skills to contribution in the society.

The students Khushi (B. Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics) and Ridhim (M. Sc. Mathematics) secured first and second position in the speech competition, while Shilpa, Gagandeep Kaur and Deepika (B.Sc (Hons.) Mathematics) secured first and second position in poster-making competition. The Head of the department gave away the prizes to the winners of the speech and poster-making competition.
