DEAN (Distance Education Programme) Message and Profile

Distance Education is an umbrella term which describes all the teaching learning arrangements in which the learner and the teacher are separated by space and time. In fact it is a mode of delivering education and instruction to learners who are not physically present in a traditional setting of a classroom. Transaction of the curriculum is effected by means of specially prepared learning materials which are delivered to the learners at their doorstep through various print & electronic media and Internet. Also a technological medium replaces the inter-personal communication of conventional classroom based education that takes place between the teacher and the learners. Communication between the institution, teacher and learners is mainly through electronic media such as teleconferencing, videoconferencing, email, webinars etc. Also, face to face contact sessions are held at various study centres which are set up by the University closer to the learners' home.
Keeping in view the University's mission of imparting quality higher education and make it available to large segments of population, especially to those living in remote and rural areas, working people, and women etc., the University proposes to set up UGC approved Distance Education Programme in the State of Punjab. In the first phase, courses related to Information Technology, Computer Applications, Business management, and Commerce are proposed to be started. It is hoped that students in large numbers shall get benefitted from this initiative of the University. It is assured that the all possible efforts shall be made to deliver qualitative education so as to enable the students to cherish their goals in life. The University would be open to any kind of suggestions, which would benefit all stakeholders of distance education in a positive manner.
