Talwandi Sabo/Bathinda, September 17: Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma today formally assumed charge as the Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda. Before assuming office, Prof. Sharma visited Takhat Sri Damdama Sahib at Talwandi Sabo to pay obeisance. He was honoured with a siropa (robe of honour) by Takhat Manager Bhai Gurdev Singh. He was accompanied by his family members, Registrar Dr. Gurinder Pal Singh Brar, Director Public Relations Harjinder Singh Sidhu, and Director Training and Placement Er. Harjot Singh Sidhu. Earlier, he also offered prayers at the historic Kali Mata Temple in Patiala. Appointed for a three-year term by the Governor of Punjab and Chancellor of MRSPTU, Prof. Sharma brings vast academic and administrative experience. At Panjab University, Chandigarh, he served as Director of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), playing a key role in securing the institution’s highest-ever NAAC A++ accreditation. He is also a Professor at the University Institute of Applied Management Sciences (UIAMS), PU, and earlier served as Dean, Faculty of Business Management and Commerce at MRSPTU (2015–2020). Outlining his priorities, Prof. Sharma said his focus would be on strengthening teaching and research, ensuring quality education, developing infrastructure, expanding industry linkages, enhancing placements, and mobilising funds. “There is no dearth of government grants for institutions, and our university will make every effort to bring maximum resources for growth,” he stated. He added that implementing governance reforms and seeking active support from the Punjabi Diaspora through financial contributions and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives—would also be key priorities. Prof. Sharma further emphasized the promotion of the ideals and philosophy of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He said documenting the life and vision of the great king, particularly his educational reforms, would be undertaken. He also highlighted the importance of promoting sports to combat the menace of drugs. A distinguished academician, Prof. Sharma, a Gold Medalist in MBA and a Silver Medalist in MSc (Hons), has pursued advanced training at premier institutes including IIM Ahmedabad and Stanford University. He has also represented India at academic forums in Singapore, the UK, and Japan. Prof. Sharma has guided over 75 PhD scholars and five post-doctoral fellows. He has authored three books, published more than 125 research papers in reputed journals, and completed 11 major research projects funded by UGC, ICSSR, AICTE, Verka, and Milkfed. Photo Captions: 1.
