Two-Day Workshop on PGS Certification in Natural Farming Concludes at MRSPTU...

Bathinda, August 20:

The Two-Day Workshop on Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) Certification in Natural Farming concluded successfully at Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda.

The event was organized collaboratively by the National Council for Organic and Natural Farming (NCONF), Ghaziabad (North Zone), Kheti Virasat Mission, Jaito, and the School of Agriculture Sciences and Engineering at MRSPTU.

            The workshop saw active participation from B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture students, faculty members, Kheti Virasat Mission members, and representatives from the Punjab State Seed Certification Agency.

            Prof. (Dr.) K. S. Sandhu, Head of the Department, welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of PGS certification in promoting organic and natural farming practices.

            Dr. Gurinderpal Singh Brar, Registrar of MRSPTU, encouraged students to leverage such workshops to enhance their practical knowledge and contribute to sustainable agriculture.

            The workshop featured presentations from several experts, including Dr. Rashmi Singh from NCONF, who provided an overview of the PGS certification process. Mr. Sanjeev Sharma, Director of Kheti Virasat Mission, discussed the principles and benefits of natural farming, while Mr. Rashpinder Singh Grewal, also from Kheti Virasat Mission, shared practical tips from his experience as a natural farmer.

            Dr. Wineet Chawla, Assistant Professor at the School of Agricultural Sciences and Engineering, provided additional insights on the significance of natural farming.

            The event concluded with a valedictory session where Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Kansal, Vice-Chancellor of MRSPTU, was the chief guest. He distributed certificates to participants, acknowledging their active involvement and commitment to learning about natural farming and PGS certification.
