Department of Civil Engineering was established in 1989, offers regular courses in B.Tech. and M.Tech., more seats are offered to the diploma holder students in the second year of B.Tech. course under lateral entry scheme. Postgraduate course in Construction Technology & Management is offered on regular basis and PhD program in Civil Engineering is also running. Motive of the department and it's well qualified & experienced faculty, staff is to impart quality education in the field of Civil Engineering. Industrial visits are also planned for the students to enhance their practical skills. Five faculty members have done PhD from prestigious institutions of the country and two others are currently pursuing their doctoral level research.
Senior faculty members of the department have been offering their expertise in the formulation/revision of various BIS/IRC codes of practice at the national level.

Civil engineering is the second-oldest engineering discipline after military engineering and is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of physically built works like roads, bridges, canals, dams and buildings. Civil engineers are important to the society as they are often referred as ‘Builders of Nation’.
The Department of Civil Engineering with its multifaceted faculty maintains its strong links with the construction industry by engaging in consultancy activities. The department has well equiped laboratories for experimental and research work. Along with Academic, the students here are encouraged to engage extra-curricular and co-curricular activities which are essential for personality development, nurturing of team spirit and development of organizational skills.

Er Sunita Kotwal, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering & Technology MRSPTU, Bathinda received the "MRSPTU Budding Innovator Award" on 12th February 2022 during the MRSPTU's 7th Foundation Day celebration organized by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Welfare, MRSPTU, Bathinda.
The Award is given by Prof (Dr.) Buta Singh Sidhu, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor MRSPTU, Dr Gurinder Pal Singh Brar, Registrar MRSPTU and Prof (Dr.) Sanjeev Kumar Aggarwal, Campus Director, GZSCCET MRSPTU, Bathinda in the presense of Dr Harpal Pannu, Chairperson - Guru Gobind Singh Ji Chair (CUP, BTI) and Acting Vice Chancellor of Adesh Medical University.
She has received this award for successfuly publishing a Patent. This is a great achievement for the Department of Civil Engineering for having the researchers.
The AICTE Training & Learning Academy sponsored 5-Day online Faculty Development Programme (FDP) has been organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering & Technology, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda from 20th Sept. to 24th Sept. 2021. More than 100 participants that are Faculty members, Research Scholars, PG Scholars of different institutions of the country joined the programme
Dr Rakesh Kumar (Coordinator), Er Sunita Kotwal (Co-coordinator), Er Sukhdeep Singh (Co-coordinator), Er Kundan Kumar Rao (Co-coordinator) and Er Nirmal Singh Sidhu (Co-coordinator) played a key role in the organization of this national level training programme.
Er Sukhdeep Singh, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering, Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering & Technology MRSPTU, Bathinda won the “Global Faculty Award 2020” organized by AKS Education Awards on 04.04.2021. He is also holding the position of Cultural Council Member, Directorate of Youth Welfare, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda. The Award show was organized virtually on 4th April 2021 to honor the GFA20 winners from nearly 15 countries worldwide including Vice Chancellors, Professors, Associate & Assistant Professors, Lecturers of various Institutions/Universities and now Er Sukhdeep got a certificate of recognition, trophy, badge, medal for the same as a winner. He got this Global level recognition for his academic achievements as a teacher and for his contributions in the organization of various National & District level conferences/events.
On 14th July 2021, Dr Buta Singh Sidhu, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor MRSPTU along with Dr Savina Bansal, Dean Academic Affairs MRSPTU & Campus Director GZSCCET, Dr GPS Brar Registrar MRSPTU invited Er Sukhdeep Singh in his office and appreciated him for this great achievement & making MRSPTU & GZSCCET proud at Global level and also congratulated Dr Rakesh Kumar, Professor & Head, Civil Engineering Department. He further added to this and motivated the other faculty members to keep working hard. Dr Sandeep Kansal, Finance officer MRSPTU, Dr GS Chahal Dy. Registrar, Er Sunita Kotwal Assistant Professor (Civil), Er Ramanpreet Singh Assistant Professor (Civil) and Er Nirmal Singh Assistant Professor (Civil) were also present along with him that day.
The NSS wing of Department of Civil Engineering, Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering & Technology MRSPTU, Bathinda organised various Literary & Fine Arts competitions for the Civil Engineering students to commemorate the Child Labour Day 2021 on 12.06.2021.
In this COVID pandemic, these competitions have been organised online to motivate the students.
Dr Gurprit Singh Bath & Er Sunita Kotwal, Coordinators NSS Wing of Civil Engineering Department were the organizers of this event. Dr Rakesh Kumar, Head of the department appreciated the efforts of NSS wing to conduct that much of important events for the overall growth of the students.

The Department of Civil Engineering, Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering & Technology MRSPTU, Bathinda organized the One Day Online Webinar on "Waterproofing of Structures" on 10th June, 2021 (Thursday) at 02:00 pm for Research Scholars, M. Tech. CTM and B.Tech. Civil Engineering students. The resource person for this webinar was Er. Vikas Malhotra, GM/Zonal Head, Upper North Zone, Customer Technical Services Department, JK Cement Ltd. (White Cement Division).
The session was started with the welcome speech by Er. Sunita Kotwal, Assistant Professor and hosted by Er. Sukhdeep Singh, Assistant Professor. It was a very fruitful and valuable webinar that enhanced the knowledge of all the participants because of realistic talk of Expert.

The AICTE-MRSPTU sponsored 6-day online Short Term Training Programme (STTP) on “Climate Change & Water Security” successfully completed here on 06.02.2021 (Saturday).
The Programme has been organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering & Technology, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda from 1st Feb. to 6th Feb. 2021. Around 115 Faculty members of different institutions of the country participated in the programme.

Prof (Dr) Rakesh Kumar, Professor & Head of Civil Engineering Department delivered a speech to welcome the respected Chief Guest, Guest of Honours, Deans, Directors, Heads, Experts and the participants during the Inaugural Session.
Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony was Prof Dinesh Kumar Singh, Director AIIMS, Bathinda and the Guest of honours, Prof (Dr) Savina Bansal, Campus Director, GZSCCET & Dean (Academics) MRSPTU Bathinda and Dr Gurinder Pal Singh Brar, Registrar of MRSPTU, Bathinda. also graced the occasion and congratulated the organizing team of this programme. Further Dr. Brar emphasized that it is the need of the hour to understand the severity of the problem and to manage it for our future generations.
Prof (Dr) Balwinder Singh Sidhu, Professor (Mechanical) & AICTE-MRSPTU MoU Coordinator, talked about the effects of rapid industrialization on the environment and also informed that in future MRSPTU is planning to conduct such kind of training programme for non-teaching staff as well.
Dr Ashok Pandey, Scientist at CSIR-IIT Research, Lucknow delivered a lecture on “Global Warming- Challenges in Energy and Environmental Sustainability” and Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal Ji talked about “Water Security” that day and shared their very valuable real initiative to preserve the Water and Climate.
Dr Gurprit Singh Bath, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering & Programme Co-coordinator, delivered a vote of thanks to all the Guests, Chairman & Vice Chairman AICTE, Vice Chancellor MRSPTU, Director Faculty Development AICTE and the participants. Department of Civil Engineering, Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering & Technology MRSPTU, Bathinda (Punjab) organized the AICTE sponsored National Level 5-Day online ATAL-FDP on from 21st Sept. to 25th Sept. 2020. The FDP got completed on 25th September 2020 and the Valedictory session was conducted for the closing of this online program.
Chief Guest of the valedictory ceremony was Prof (Dr) Savina Bansal, Campus Director, Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering & Technology MRSPTU, Bathinda (Punjab). While speaking on the occasion, about the program, Dr Savina Bansal thanked AICTE and Dr R K Soni, Director NWRO ATAL Academy, Chandigarh for providing this opportuanity to conduct the Faculty Development Program. She further congratulated the Department of Civil Engineering, FDP Coordinator Dr Rakesh Kumar and the organising team for conducting that much of fruitful program for the participants and also motivated to conduct such courses in the future as well.
FDP Coordinator, Prof (Dr) Rakesh Kumar, Professor & Head of Civil Engineering Department welcomed the Chief Guest, Faculty of Civil Engineering Department and 194 participants of various parts of India. He also put the light on this very prominent topic Waste Technology and suggested all the participants to implement the waste management techniques in their life that they learnt during this FDP and to keep their environment clean and pollution free.
Dr Rakesh Singla further thanked FDP Co-coordinators, Er Sunita Kotwal, Assistant Professor & Er Sukhdeep Singh, Assistant Professor for all tireless efforts they made for about 1.5 month for the success of this National Level Faculty Development Program.

While speaking on the occasion, Dr Savina Bansal an eminent educationist of the region stressed on the engineering & scientific fraternity to shoulder the responsibility of creating a temperament in the country for minimising waste by using all possible waste preventive measures. MRSPTU Vice Chancellor Dr M P S Ishar, while touching various aspects of waste and its management, had expressed his concern on abated rise of waste leading to high level of pollution endangering the flora and fauna around us.
FDP Coordinator, Prof (Dr) Rakesh Kumar, Professor & Head of Civil Engineering Department welcomed the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and 194 participants of the FDP that are from various parts of India. He also put the light on this very prominent topic Waste Technology and suggested all the attendees to start learning that how to manage the waste at individual level and also from small scale too. FDP Co-coordinators, Er Sunita Kotwal, Assistant Professor & Er Sukhdeep Singh, Assistant Professor were also present during the inauguration and to coordinate the 5-Day program under the guidance of FDP Coordinator.

Department of Civil Engineering, Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering & Technology MRSPTU, Bathinda organized visit of batch 2018 students of Civil Engineering Department and M. Arch. Planning students of Architecture Department to Punjab Remote Sensing Centre, Ludhiana on 03.03.2020.
Dr. D.S. Loshali, Scientist & Head LS, PRSC delivered a valuable lecture to the students on Remote Sensing, GIS, GPS and their uses & applications in various fields. Further, Mr. Inderpreet delivered a lecture on GISarc software to enhance the knowledge of the students.
After that there was a round of all students to various laboratories of the centre to provide knowledge regarding various works that are being done in this Remote Sensing Centre and how & with which Softwares they perform their duties.

Department of Civil Engineering, Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering & Technology, Bathinda organized an Expert Lecture on various Civil Engineering Softwares like AutoCAD, StaadPro, eTabs etc. for 4th Semester & 6th Semester students by Inforwiz Software Solutions, Bathinda.
Experts/Engineers of Infowiz explained the importance and uses of these software in future and how the skills of these software would be helpful to the students in their career as well.

NSS wing of Department of Civil Engineering, Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering & Technology MRSPTU, Bathinda visited Bathinda city for Traffic Awareness for people. Around 55 students of Civil Engineering Department along with two Faculty Members including Er. Gurprit Singh Bath, Associate Professor & Coordinator of NSS wing and Er. Sunita Kotwal, Assistant Professor & Co-coordinator of NSS wing, Civil Engineering Department visited and distributed the pamphlets to the people on different location of Bathinda. They explained the traffic rules to the people that how to drive safe.

The Association of Civil Engineering Students (ACES) of Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering & Technology, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda organised their Annual Techno-Literary Fest “Sanrachna-2019”. The chief guest on the occasion was Er. Sandeep Dangra, ADEN, Hanumangarh (Indian Railways Services). He was welcomed by Prof. (Dr.) Manjeet Bansal, Head of Civil Engineering Department, Er. Gurprit Singh Bath, Coordinator, ACES, Er. Sunita Kotwal Co-coordinator Sanrachna'19, Er. Sukhdeep Singh Assistant Professor and other faculty members. Er. Sandeep Dangra, honourable chief-guest expressed joy on being connected to this department on this day. He motivated the students with his own experiences and also highlighted the significance of extra co-curricular activities for the overall development of students’ personality. The inauguration ceremony included lamp lightning ceremony by the various dignitaries present.
On this occasion Prof. (Dr.) Manjeet Bansal enumerated the various achievements of the Civil Engineering Department in the past year. He added that students should lay their primary focus on their academic activities and in their free time they should participate in extra co-curricular activities which would further add in their personality. He also commended the performance of students of the department in the GATE 2019 examination in which five students of the department had qualified. ACES Co-coordinator Er. Sunita Kotwal proposed the vote of thanks to mark the closure of inauguration ceremony.
As many as 200 undergraduate and postgraduate students from civil department participated in the fest which consisted of various technical and literary events, which would enhance the confidence of students to perform better in their future. The first and second positions in Technical Quiz were bagged by Nikhil Lakra and Priyanshu Ranjan respectively. First and Second positions in Technical paper presentation were bagged by Heemanshu Garg and Saurabh Kumar & Prahlad Kumar respectively. In Civil Engineering 'Then & Now', the winner was Chunnu Kumar and runner up was Priyanshu Ranjan. In Cad War, the winner was Lovish Garg and runner up was Heemanshu Garg. Many other events like Debate, Cast-it-fast, Bridge-O-Mania, etc. were also conducted.

Department of Civil Engineering organized it's Annual Techno-Festival "Sanrachna" on 7th April, 2017. Dr. Narinder Singh of Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo was the chief guest of the occassion. Dr. Gursharan Singh, Campus Director and Dr. Manjeet Singh, Head of Civil Engineering Department, Dr. Bal Krishan (Faculty Incharge of Sanrachna'17) and another faculty members welcomed the chief guest. Students of Civil Engg. Department participated in the various technical events of Sanrachna fest with full enthusiasm.
